A Look Inside San Juan | Sara’s Story

Photo Apr 05, 12 41 03 PMWith tears running down her cheeks, but a smile on her face, Sara Lopez, the newest teacher at the POI San Juan program shared her story of the immovable obstacles and the Lords faithfulness that brought her to where she is today.

Sara grew up and graduated from the POI program a little over 10 years ago.

“I loved going to POI each day to get what was usually my only meal for the day, but mostly to listen to my teachers tell me stories about the Bible,” Sara said.

Sara came to know Christ at POI, all because one of her teachers sat down and shared the gospel with her.

After she graduated from the program, Sara went on to finish her education while continuing to attend the church at San Juan. She helped her family by selling tortillas on the side of the street, but the money was never enough.

Two months ago, Sara was asked to begin teaching at the San Juan program.

“When I was in 6th grade, my teacher at POI let me help her with the younger kids and I loved it. The Lord put a passion in my heart for teaching at such a young age.I am amazed at how faithful He has been to lead me where I am now, “she said.

The money Sara makes teaching helps to support her mother and her 10 month old son.

A few weeks ago Sara was teaching a class of 1st graders the story of Noah. Toward the end of the lesson a little girl slipped up her hand and motioned for her teacher to come to the corner of the classroom. She told Sara that she didn’t want to make God sad anymore; that she wanted her life to make God happy.

“I know that she understood for the first time just like I did when my teacher shared the gospel with me,” Sara cried as she finished her story

“Every time I teach my students, I begin to remember the Bible verses that I was taught. Someone planted this seed in me and I am here to plant it is someone else” –Sara Lopez

Pray for Sara:

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,  to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever Ephesians 3:20-21
