A Special Thank You: Keesha’s Story

“I chose to sponsor Cris after meeting her on my first POI mission trip in the summer of 2007. She was in the program Ayestas (Crucitas) and I grew attached to her throughout my week there doing VBS with the kids.”

“She hung out with me the whole week, helping me with crafts during Vacation Bible School. She was just so sweet and we just really connected. So as soon as I got back from my trip I looked on the POI website to see if she had a sponsor. When I saw that she didn’t I immediately knew I wanted to be her sponsor. I know that because of my sponsorship, they get a hot meal every day to nourish their tummies…and they are being taught daily about Jesus’ love for them which nourishes them spiritually.”

You may have heard us talk about our child sponsorship program, but for those who have not—for thirty dollars a month you can provide an impoverished child with daily nutritious meals, free medical care, academic tutoring, and Biblical guidance. For thirty dollars—you can make a difference.

“For me, the greatest part of sponsoring a child through POI has been the special relationship that I’ve been able to build with the girls I’ve sponsored. I’ve loved both Cris and Valerie as if they were my own kids. I’m so glad to know that I’ve had a hand in these two sweet girls being taken care of by POI. I know they are being loved on and cared for.”

After Cris graduated from the program Keesha knew she wanted to sponsor another child so she went on our website and ended up choosing Valerie. She remembered Valerie from a previous mission trip and remembered her being really sweet.

“I’ve had the privilege of getting to hang out with Valerie the last two times I’ve been in Honduras and I can’t wait till the next time I get to go back down and see her again! I love her as if she was my own child—and miss her very much!”

When Keesha first began serving alongside POI nearly a decade ago, little did we all know what an impact she would have on this ministry. Last year, Keesha was diagnosed with breast cancer. Though it has taken a toll on Keesha both physically and financially, she and her family continue to support the ministry as ever faithfully as before.

In honor of October being breast cancer awareness month, I wanted to highlight this special POI family member who has impacted so many around the globe.

“The sponsorship program at POI has impacted my life greatly. It makes me so happy to know I’m helping the sweet girls I’ve sponsored to have a better life. It has always made me so happy when I’ve gotten letters in the mail from my sponsor kids and have been able to see how happy they are. I love being a sponsor and hope to be able to continue to sponsor through POI for many, many more years!”

Keesha, on behalf of Point of Impact, Valerie, Cris, and all those you’ve impacted—thank you! We are grateful to have you be a part of this family, and we are praying for you!
