Yarely’s Backpack

Yarely doesn’t just need a backpack to attend school. She needs the reassuring stability, the opportunity to study, and the chance to break this vicious cycle of gang involvement that is slowly destroying her family—and her future.

Meet Yarely— She just completed the sixth grade at Point of Impact Crucitas. Now that she has graduated from the program Yarely is 80% more likely to graduate high school.

Each year upon entering the POI program, Yarely received a backpack with the school supplies she needed to be adequately prepared for school.

Like many other kids in her country, Yarely’s childhood has been marked by the devastation of growing gang-violence and poverty. Her two brothers were killed and her mother was shot eight times by gang members.

Yarely doesn’t just need a backpack to attend school. She needs the reassuring stability, the opportunity to study, and the chance to break this vicious cycle of gang involvement that is slowly destroying her family—and her future.

As you have likely read over the past few months, the 2014 Christmas Backpack Program is in full swing. Though the holidays have come and gone, the opportunity to impact a child like Yarely is still possible.

With gratitude, we are excited to announce that 526 backpacks have been purchased thus far, leaving us only 374 backpacks to reach our goal of 900!

Will you consider getting involved? We are confident we can reach this goal with such generous givers standing alongside us.
